ABOUT US

Zodiak VFX formed after its founders saw an opportunity in the market to fill a gap which would assist not only larger studios in a subcontracting role (in which we thrive), but also to open up an offering of high-end visuals to productions with a more limited budget that cannot afford big studio costs – or to productions that wanted their budget to stretch further.

Having worked for well over a decade in the industry as senior compositors (winning various awards for VFX including multiple BAFTA’s and an Emmy), Zodiak’s founders as HOD’s managed teams of varying capabilities and disciplines and had formed a solid foundation and reputation together as a reliable and hard-working partnership which always strove for the highest standards in the final shot.

From day one Zodiak were inundated with work, so it became rapidly evident that our formation was not only timely, but desirable in the market. The feedback from every studio that has outsourced to us and every production thus far has made us realise that our approach was sound and we soon secured regular contracts and formed relationships with other VFX houses which we value and nurture to this day.

All this has reinforced our commitment to our ethos; to remain at boutique size to be an asset to productions and larger studios alike, working respectfully and collaboratively to provide a reliable resource to the industry without ever compromising on quality.

We specialise in compositing in all disciplines, with additional strengths in digital matte painting. Our solid network of trusted senior artists widens our offerings into motion graphics and CGI creation and integration.

Historically our vfx work has primarily been in feature film and high end television productions, however we’ve also completed visuals for music videos, theatrical/event performance digital backdrops and commercials.

Tamsie Thomas

Tamsie Thomas

Tamsie is one of the founders of Zodiak VFX. Before establishing Zodiak, Tamsie was the Head of 2D at Milk Visual Effects’ studio in Cardiff where she led the artist team and was part of the Milk team that won an Emmy and a BAFTA in 2016. She joined Milk from BBC Cymru where she was a Senior Visual Effects Artist for five years during which time her and her team received a BAFTA in 2015 and a BAFTA Cyrmu in 2014.

Historically Tamsie lectured VFX (specialising in matte painting) for the University of South Wales, was a Senior Creative Retoucher at London based Studio Tapestry for thirteen years, and started her career in Quantel on their Graphic Paintbox. Tamsie won Fujifilm/PPLA Digital Retoucher of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2005 and the Eatern Press Design Awards in 1994.

When Tamsie isn’t being creative in compositing – she can be found (often with one of her pet sugar-gliders perched on her head) sewing a costume for her daughter who is an aerial circus performer. Alternatively she can sometimes be spotted bobbing on the waves testing out her new paddleboard skills at one of the nearby coastlines (usually possum-free on these occasions).

Myfanwy Harris

Myfanwy Harris

Myfanwy (otherwise known by her nickname, Miv) is one of the founders of Zodiak VFX. Before establishing Zodiak, Myfanwy was Deputy Head of 2D at Milk Visual Effects in Cardiff assisting Tamsie leading the artist team and was part of the Milk team that won a BAFTA Cymru award in 2016. Miv joined Milk from BBC Cymru where she was a Senior Visual Effects Artist. During her time here she and her team won a BAFTA in 2015 and a BAFTA Cymru in 2014.

Before the BBC, Myfanwy freelanced for 2 years as a Senior Compositor for productions & studios in South Wales, Bristol and London after leaving her main role as Head of VFX at Dragon DI. At Dragon she led a team of in-house and outsource artists working primarily on feature films directly with productions and collaboratively with larger VFX houses for over 5 years.

Historically, Myfanwy began her career as an editor after graduating with a First Class (Hons) in Media Practice & Creative Writing, and prior to that a diploma in Art & Design. She has also won awards for her creative writing which she continues as a hobby in her free time. Aside from writing, she’s a sucker for coastal paths and getting as close to wildlife as she can (optimistically working on her Doolittle skills which she’s sure she’ll master any day now.)
